It’s time to make a change and clean up our planet. One of the easiest ways to do this is to reduce the plastic we use at home. From reusing plastic containers to replacing plastic items with more sustainable options, there are a variety of ways to make a difference. By taking the steps outlined here, you can make a big impact with minimal effort and help keep our planet clean and healthy.

Start with the basics

Reducing the use of plastic at home doesn’t have to be overwhelming. There are small, simple steps you can take to start reducing your reliance on plastic in your everyday life.

The easiest place to start is by simply saying no. Make a conscious effort to refuse single-use plastic items like straws, shopping bags, and disposable utensils. This means taking reusable bags, containers, and cups with you wherever you go. It also means being aware of what types of packaging your food and other products come in when you’re at the store.

If you can, invest in reusable items that can help you cut down on your use of plastic. Metal straws, mesh produce bags, and glass containers are all great options for replacing single-use items. You can also look for items made from recycled materials, such as bamboo toothbrushes or biodegradable cleaning supplies.

Recycle

Recycling is an effective way to reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills. Many materials, including plastic, can be recycled into new products. Before you toss any items into your recycling bin, make sure you check with your local recycling centers on what materials they accept. To ensure clean and usable material, you should use a clean toob to sort and store recyclable materials such as plastic bottles and containers. Toobing also helps to reduce contamination of other recyclables by keeping materials separated and tidy.

When choosing a tool for sorting, select one that is sturdy and has compartments for different types of materials, such as metal, glass, paper, and plastic. Label each box accordingly so that all recyclable materials are easy to identify and separate. Make sure to rinse out any containers before putting them into the toob, as dirt and food can contaminate the recycling process. By reducing, reusing, and recycling plastic items around the house with a clean toob, you can help reduce the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfills. Take the time to educate yourself on how and what you can recycle, and start making conscious efforts towards leading a greener life!
